Background: Nationality: Scottish
Birthplace: Highlands of Scotland, somewhere near modern day Inverness and Aviemore
History: Maggie McPherson was born in 1760 in the highlands of Scotland, the only daughter of outlawed chief, Cluny McPherson. she was born with a twin brother named Daniel. their mother died soon afterwards. their father left them and their older brother Duncan when she was 5 to France and was never heard from again. Margaret, or Maisie as Duncan called her, grew up with the boys, she learned to hunt, fight, and act like a boy. the small family raised a herd of sheep in a lonely glen, Duncan married when Maisie and Daniel were 12, and the family welcomed Aiofe. when they were 13, a company of English Redcoats came to their farm and stole most of the herd, keeping Duncan at gunpoint. when one Redcoat spotted Daniel trying to hide a newborn lamb, he fired and killed Daniel. after the Redcoats left, Maisie took her brothers gun and ran after them. she ambushed them by shooting down the man that had killed her twin brother. one year later the English came again to take Duncan off to war. they had taxes to pay now, since the Jacobite rebellion, and the only way they could pay was by joining the army. Maisie snuck away in the night and cut off her hair, stole her dead brothers old clothes and joined the 43rd's light company instead of her brother, who had a newborn child at home.
and that's the basics. and why she hates the English so much. Consider her a bit of a mercenary, she follows the money and respects good leadership, not men who had to buy their way into their ranks. The irony of this is that while under the 43rd and stationed in Boston during the winter of 1774/75, she was entered into a marksmanship contest for General Gage and won the purse, enough to buy her the rank of Ensign. She originally refused the rank, choosing to send the money back home to Duncan, but after Lexington and Concord, Gage would not take no for an answer and sent the uniform to her while she recovered from wounds inflicted during the fighting while she tried to rescue her Lieutenant.
