Alrighty, I figure it's about time I put one of these up here.
Meet Zachariah. Most call him Rye. Honestly, he'll answer to anything.
He is 27 and has been in the 14th Foot for nearly ten years. So he knows a thing or two. He's a fair shot (given the inaccuracy of muskets), doesn't back down from a fight, and would do anything for his comrades or his friends. However, he has very little ambition which is ultimately a good thing as he has a tendency to teeter on the brink of decision-making. Most of the time he would either put off the decision indefinitely or would pick something without a great deal of thought behind it (and usually something reckless and ill-advised). Rye is not a leader. He is also not social. Regardless of what he may say, he can dance though he hasn't attempted it in ten years. He was brought up well in a very well-to-do family though he has had no contact with any members of his family (aside from a distant cousin) in the ten years he's been in service as he had been disowned when he was 17 for a decision he had made.
Rye suffers from regrets and is haunted by his past decision. He "medicates" himself with alcohol quite heavily. In fact, he is rarely entirely sober though he can hold his liquor quite well.
What he needs:
Friends?
It wouldn't be easy to get past his walls but he is incredibly loyal to his friends. Rye is a good guy deep down and can be one of the most caring people. But it's hard to see that and is getting harder to as the years go by.
Enemies?
He's outspoken, blunt, unfriendly, drinks constantly, is always starting fights ... plenty of room for enemies. I wouldn't be surprised if most people hated him.
Lovers?
Nothing serious. That decision that still haunts him involves a young woman he was very much in love with. He was engaged to her, broke off the engagement to please his father, and then, realizing his mistake, broke off ties to his family to be with her. Unfortunately, he was too late and the woman had taken her own life.
