Background:
Elizabeth Harlow was born on a plantation in Charleston, South Carolina to Aiden Harlow, who is a professor of Latin and a Patriot to the bone, and Sarah Harlow. The two lived together at Briar Oak, where together they raised a brood of children, and all different in temperaments. Charles, the oldest, Henry, and William were all her older brothers. Then after Elizabeth were born, Margaret and Caleb followed. As her older brothers were out practicing their marksmanship, or hunting on their land. Elizabeth was burrowed away in the corner of her father's study reading books. She was addicted to the written word, and could get lost for hours filling her mind with ideals and being enlightened. Though, her mother did allow her to do this when she was young, once Elizabeth turned 14 it was time to think of other things that a respectable lady should be doing, and not getting mixed up in...well unlady like manners. Elizabeth became hungry for more knowledge as she grew older, and would often sit in on her father's private lectures and listen. A woman with ideas was born.
The summer that Elizabeth turned 17 her mother died suddenly, and with no one to help Aiden with raising the younger children, so Elizabeth stepped up and helping raise the young ones who were 11 and 8. It was a scary task to take on since she had no experience, but who else could take care of Margaret and Caleb like their mother? When Elizabeth wasn't looking after her younger siblings, she was going into town with one of her older brothers and attend speeches and protests that spoke out against the king. Though Elizabeth would never be able to hold a gun or fight like the men, she tries to use her knowledge to fight back. Marital bliss has sometimes been on of the things on her mind, but sometimes she wonder as to who would want to marry her. Sometimes she felt that her sharp wit and temper would send the men running for the battlefields in a heartbeat. She's had a few beaus, but none of them lasted long for marital bliss and happily ever after.
