After a week of travelling by sea in the open ocean, Elizabeth Harlow had finally arrived in England, and just in time for her grandmother's ball. All dignitaries, generals, and sometimes even royalty attended. To miss this event would something you would not want to miss. The Duchess had planned this months in advance, and she spared no expense. Infact, once one party was done, she immediately started to plan the next. She took pride in showing off her wealth, and to bring her family all together. Even if it meant inviting her American grandchildren, who were patriots to attend, so she swallowed her pride for that one night. She had ordered bottles of champagne, lots of exquisite foods from far off lands, and luxurious décor.
Elizabeth arrived by carriage, taking a room in the large home, and getting settled in after her long voyage. When she opened her door, she found a few dresses had already been laid out for her to choose from. If there was one thing Elizabeth could give granny credit for, it was her way to staying with the times of fashion. Elizabeth took off her hat, and shook her head. " Thank you Granny," she said softly placing her hat down.
It was about that hour, and the guests started to arrive and the sounds of a party were underway. The sound was muffled once it had reached Elizabeth's room, so she didn't need a maid to come and tell her what time it was. She wore a light champagne colored dress, with white lace trim, and a low neck line. The maid had tightened her corset just a touch too small, and she felt like she should faint. She wore her hair in an elegant bun, and a dark sapphire necklace draped around her swan neck. Slowly, she walked down the hall, and leaned over the bannister that looked down into the foyer. Seeing all the elegant ladies, and strapping men enter she smiled and her heart danced. She skipped down the stairs till she reached the end and gracefully walked in to join the masses.
