clarissa, sweet, sweet clarissa. what a load of bullocks. the only time you will think clarissa is sweet is when she wants you to. a coquette, a manipulator, and a shrewd business woman, and all at only nineteen years old. clarissa is not above stepping on and over people to meet her ends. she is the daughter of general alexander trevelyne of the king's army. while her brother and father have run off to play soldier, clarissa is at home keeping the family's horse breeding business afloat. while her family has declared loyalty to the crown, clarissa herself has more of a patriot leaning.
i would imagine she doesn't have a lot of real friends. to be quite honest, she's a nasty piece fo work. she's brash and arrogant, and sometimes downright mean. think scarlet o'hara, but amped up. she has absolutely no problems with stepping on people to get what she wants or needs. and she will be the first one to play a roll to make people trust and like her in order to do so. she doesn't trust people, because of who she is and the business she runs. she has a honeyed tongue and can make you think you're going to heaven in a hand basket while she's personally escorting you down the road to hell. she wants people to trust her so she can use what they tell her against them or her further her own agenda. her father made his name as one of the best producers of horses in england and now in the colonies, though he has joined the king's army and has run off to play soldier with his son, leaving clarissa at home to keep the business afloat. so i image any of her father's business partners would know her as well.
sadly, there's probably a lot of enemies. clarissa is not an easily likeable person. she tries to fool people into believing that she is, but to be fair, she really isn't. and there are probably plenty of people that have figured out the type of person that she is. on top of that, she's a tough business woman. when it comes to her father's business, she won't take lip off of anyone. she's a snake when it comes to selling the stock, and she can wheel and deal with the best of them. on top of that, she has no problem flirting with potential clients to make them want to buy more of what she's got to sell. as such, she's probably got a lot of women that hate her for distracting their beaus and husbands.
as far as lovers, well,... ain't nobody got time for that. seriously though, clarissa usually stays too wrapped up in work to see anyone. so she's pretty much given up, and accepted she will be single forever. don't get me wrong, she's a flirt, and a tease, and has no problem being either of those things if it gets what she needs done done. despite all that, clarissa needs to be knocked down a few pegs and have her feet knocked out from under her by lurve. i love the idea of it being someone she shouldn't be messing with: either a loyalist that she should hate, a patriot that she would have to keep secret from society, someone below her, even another woman. i love drama. i want to mess with her fragile psyche and knock that sense of security out from under her. so if you think your character would fall in perfect here, let me know! i'm game!
