Clarissa was not one to sneak out often.
Well, that was a lie.
Clarissa was not one to sneak out without a reason.
But today had been a beautiful day, but no amount of begging could get her father or her brother out of the house for a few hours to ride through the woods. They were home, and they wanted to BE home for the few days before they would be back in battle. Finally she had grown irritated and had gone and saddled up Constantine herself and had gone for a quick ride, before anyone where to realize she had gone.
Now, the high-stepping, dapple gray, Andalusian stallion pranced through the woods, chomping at the bit, eagerly waiting to be let loose and to run to his heart's content. And, the young French girl astride his back knew that if she knew the woods like she had known the ones behind her own home, she would have loosened his rein.
But the last thing she needed was to be out by herself and have Constantine hit a hole and throw her or break his leg. So for now, she was content with his high prancing gait, his strong head up and his ears pricked forward. The sun filtered through the trees to hit his dapple gray coat and his long black mane, reflecting off her own emerald green dress and the long dark cloak she had chosen to go over it.
The birds were chirping, the weather comfortable, there was not much Clarissa could complain about at present. Until Constantine went stiff, freezing mid step and lifting his head even higher, his ears twitching back behind him.
Suddenly, he tucked up underneath himself and spun on his back legs to face behind him, quick enough that Adrienne nearly lost her balance, his ears pricked forward and he nickered softly, curiously.
Someone or something was coming up the trail...
